Protection From Freeze

Preventing Frozen Pipes

Water damage and fire damage are always unexpected. Minimize your risk of needing our assistance.

There are a few things you can do to prevent the problem of freezing pipes from occurring again:

•Leave the faucet dripping slightly, as a trickle. The dripping flow will keep the water in the pipe from freezing.
•Open kitchen base cabinets (especially on exterior walls) and let room air circulate. Provide safe heat if necessary.
•Wrap problem pipes with electrical heat tape.
•Insulate the problem pipes with foam insulation wrap, especially those that run through unheated spaces.
•Temper unheated crawlspaces by placing a safe heater in the crawlspace. You just need to elevate the crawlspace temperature to modestly above freezing, about 40°F.
•Disconnect all hoses from exterior sill cocks.

Should you have a pipe freeze, please never thaw the affected pipe by using an open flame or torch.
